When did you start DJing?
I started in the beginning of this year, but I had been thinking about if for a long time and was kind of afraid to jump in. Two years ago my partner, best friend and another close friend all pitched in to buy me a Native Instruments Z1 controller, and it sat in my room for a long time. Meanwhile I was dabbling into production, but came back to DJing, and as soon as I got my first gig, I knew it would stick around. I love sharing music that I like and make people vibe to it, there’s something so direct, and you can do it on a weekly basis.
First gig in Montreal:
At Nouveau Palais and Jacques Greene was there having a drink with my friend, I was so nervous.
Favorite party ever played:
I played a pretty epic party at Voro called Bang It Out (sometime late winter), I was opening for Shaydakiss and A-Rock. There were lots of people and they were really warming up to my music, but then it got busted by the cops and it turned into the most insane Mile-End house party of 2015. It was my second gig ever!
Favorite woman DJ:
My biggest crush is Kim Ann Foxman, her music is so groovy and her style is wicked. There’s so many other ones, they’re mostly really badass producers: Tokimonsta, Ellen Allien, Fatima Al Qadiri, Laurel Halo, Anja Schneider, Lena Willikens, etc
Best record you’ve ever bought:
Right now I’m really digging Terron’s Whites 003, So acid, so good.
How would you define the term DISCWOMAN?
It’s a way to bring women and female identified DJs together not only to demonstrate to the world that we exist and that we are rad, but also to surrounded ourselves with women to look up to and exchange with.
Pet peeve when DJing:
Random dudes coming up and telling me when one of my mixes doesn’t quite work or when they tell me how great of a vinyl DJ they were “back then.” You can just suck my left one (wink wink to Bikini Kill!)
Do you dance when you DJ?
ALWAYS. A DJ that doesn’t dance or doesn’t like clubs and parties is suspicious. Smells like pretension.
Can you DJ when wasted?
Ummm, at least I’m under the impression that I can!
Place you’d like to play:
Moog, in Barcelona. I’ve had great and weird nights at that club while I was living there.
Something you want everyone to know about you:
That I LOVE karaoke. Some of my closest friends already know.
