We met Mika aka Ziur over this summer at our event with Creamcake at OHM and our friendship has grown much like her music production endeavors, she has been nothing short of killing it. Several weeks ago we premiered a remix she did for Tomás Urquieta and now we get a delightful window into her musical selections, which mirror so much of her character; not concerned with what’s conventional and concerned with igniting a reaction out of her listeners and audience which is exactly what this mix provokes and we’re all the way here for. Check out her Q&A, tracklist and mix below:
tell us about this mix
usually when i do mixes i try and round up as many different kinds of musical influences in one compact, functioning frame work. i like throwing things together that usually wouldn’t considered to be ‘correct’ but there are no rules, really.
this one especially features a lot of friends that i deeply care about and i’m blown away by their musical offerings.
when did you start djing?
for fun i started djing ages ago for free drinks in bars basically playing tina turner all night but professionally it all came with being a producer and needing to find a way on how i could play my tracks in the club. additionally while starting to gain further technical skills, i developed an ambition of wanting to get better and better. still on my way but i’m on the autobahn.
the first gig as ziúr was a spontaneous one. we were planning a solidarity event for refugees and i didn’t see me musically fitting with the other people on the line up. at the same time i had the urge to start a new project so within 2 months of hard work i managed to throw together a half an hour live set and there we go. i’m glad none of these tracks ever saw daylight but u gotta start somewhere i guess.
favorite party ever played?
that was probably the ‘one’ party that i blacked out at.
one of the djs that constantly inspire me is kablam. i can watch her over and over, get my mind blown again and again and never get tired. besides the last time when i got tired before making it out of the house and i bailed on her. sorry kajsa <3
it’s generally tough for me to call one person my fav, i have so much love to give. a clear favourite at the moment is yves tumor. this last album is something else. i could name 10 more on the spot but yea… that wasn’t quite the question.
pet peeve when djing
classic: the requests, important people in the booth, people doing the ‘gun in their hands’ move, mansplaining.
what’s best compliment you’ve ever gotten?
haha. i’m too shy to let em through, really.
i equally see it as a compliment when people are seemingly with me during a set or on the contrary, i play people out, especially at live sets. both just tells me i’m doing something right.
place you’d like to play?
wherever i can meet down to earth people who are invested in what they’re doing and preferably are accompanied by a bottle of tequila and a good soundsystem.
something you want everyone to know about you
i am a person.
