Changsie

Resident of Tokyo's Joyride night, Changsie has been making waves away from home counting here with our latest mix installment making. Identifying strong bass and high hats as her source of cohesion here we're taken a lot further than we'd expect, her simplistic approach transforms into an inspiring adventure.

Tell us about this mix:

I like tracks that have strong bass and hi-hats with distinctive bass lines, so I've selected those tracks for this mix. There's electro, house, techno and drum'n'bass, so quite diverse in terms of styles.

When did you start DJing?

First gig:

At a small DJ bar called Signal in Takadanobaba in Tokyo. It was a party of a friend's.

Favorite party ever played:

Joyride (A regular party that I am a resident DJ of.)

Fave DJ:

Josey Rebelle, Ben UFO, Lil Mofo and Carista

Fave producer:

DMX Krew, 2 Bad Mice, DJ Deeon, Omar-S and Luke Vibert

Pet peeve when DJing:

Luckily I haven't experienced too many, but when people don't show respect to the DJs such as by putting their drinks on electronic equipments.

What’s the best compliment you’ve ever gotten?

"You have unique ears." Not because it made me feel special, but if I manage to select or play music differently from others, that gives me a reason to DJ. So I was happy to hear that.

Place you’d like to play:

Shinjuku Open (in Tokyo - where she holds Joyride nights.)

Something you want everyone to know about you:

If you ever have a chance to visit Tokyo, please come to Joyride at Shinjuku Open. I'm planning to move to London next year, so I hope I get to play to more people.
